
Alpine Sweetvetch
Hedysarum alpinum
A tall pink-flowered legume of Alberta's foothills and northern woodlands, producing long racemes of rose-pink pea-like blooms through summer. The starchy roots were historically boiled or roasted by Dene and other northern peoples. Mature plants have toxic seed pods — take care with identification.
