Awned Sedge

Carex atherodes

A tall, robust sedge of Alberta's marshes, fens, and ditches. Forms dense stands 80–150 cm tall with long awned seed heads. Critical waterfowl nesting habitat and important for wetland water-level regulation. Recognize by the triangular stems typical of sedges: 'sedges have edges.'
