Bog Cranberry

Vaccinium oxycoccos

A tiny trailing evergreen of Alberta's sphagnum bogs, producing small tart red berries high in vitamin C. Ancestor of the commercial cranberry. Native peoples across the boreal harvested these for winter stores. Do not confuse with the unrelated High Bush Cranberry (Viburnum edule).
