Bracted Honeysuckle

Lonicera involucrata

Also called Twinberry — a tall deciduous shrub of moist woodlands and streambanks with paired yellow tubular flowers cradled in distinctive red-purple bracts, followed by paired shiny black berries in conspicuous red 'cups.' Hummingbird-pollinated. Berries are mildly toxic to humans; do not eat despite the attractive display.

Propagation

Softwood cuttings in early summer root readily under mist. Seed germinates after 90 days cold stratification. Layering of low branches works.
