Bunchberry

Cornus canadensis

A ground-hugging dogwood relative forming lush carpets across boreal forest floors. Whorls of oval leaves beneath flowers that look like single white blooms (actually small greenish flowers surrounded by four showy white bracts). Produces clusters of bright red berries in late summer — technically edible but nearly flavourless. Spectacular fall colour.
