Dotted Blazing Star

Liatris punctata

A striking late-summer prairie wildflower with rocket-spike clusters of densely-packed bright purple flower heads, blooming from the top down (unusual for a flower spike). Grass-like dotted leaves. Exceptional pollinator plant β€” monarchs especially love it. Deep carrot-like taproot (30+ cm) makes it highly drought-tolerant and difficult to transplant once established.
