
Fireberry Hawthorn
Crataegus chrysocarpa
A tough, thorny shrub of Alberta's woodland edges and coulees. White flower clusters in spring, small red berries (haws) in autumn. Berries rich in flavonoids, traditionally dried for winter stores. Dense thorny branches create excellent nesting habitat.
