Fragile Fern

Cystopteris fragilis

A small delicate rock-loving fern found in Alberta's shaded cliff crevices, rocky slopes, and mossy boulders from boreal to alpine. Fronds 15–30 cm tall, truly fragile — they shatter when brushed. Goes dormant in late summer drought and returns with moisture. Excellent for rock gardens and stone walls.
