Knight's Plume Moss

Ptilium crista-castrensis

One of the most beautiful mosses anywhere — regular, densely feather-like fronds form an unmistakable ostrich-plume pattern. Prefers shaded, moist, acidic conifer forests and moss carpets over rotting wood. A gem of Alberta's boreal understory, usually found scattered through larger mats of Pleurozium or Hylocomium.
