Little Bluestem

Schizachyrium scoparium

A warm-season bunch-forming grass with blue-green summer foliage that turns glowing mahogany-red in fall — among the most beautiful of Alberta's native grasses. Fluffy white seed heads catch low autumn light spectacularly. A dominant species of tallgrass prairie remnants in SE Alberta.
