Lodgepole Pine
Pinus contorta var. latifolia
Alberta's most fire-adapted tree — serotinous cones require wildfire heat to open and release seeds. Named because Indigenous peoples prized its straight trunks for lodge poles. Alberta's official provincial tree. Inner bark was traditionally eaten in spring.
