Vaccinium myrtilloides
îyinimin(Plains Cree)
The true wild blueberry of Alberta's boreal forests — a low deciduous shrub with velvety twigs and small blue-black berries with a pale bloom. Prolific in old burns and pine forests where sun reaches the ground. Among the most significant Indigenous food plants across the boreal; commercial Manitoba/Quebec 'wild blueberry' comes from the closely-related V. angustifolium.
