Manitoba Maple

Manitoba Maple

Acer negundo

Also called Box Elder — a fast-growing, short-lived maple native to riparian areas of the eastern prairies and parkland. Distinctive compound leaves (3–7 leaflets) unlike any other native maple. Yields good maple syrup in small quantities. Considered weedy in some urban settings — self-seeds readily and drops brittle limbs. Host plant for the boxelder bug.
