Narrowleaf Cottonwood

Populus angustifolia

A graceful cottonwood of Alberta's southwestern mountain valleys — narrow willow-like leaves distinguish it from its broader-leaved cousin. Smaller than Plains Cottonwood (15–20 m). Often hybridizes with Balsam Poplar where ranges overlap, producing intermediate 'lanceleaf' trees. Stabilizes mountain streambanks.
