Northern Bedstraw

Galium boreale

A cheerful perennial that fills Alberta roadsides, meadows, and open woods with frothy white clusters of tiny four-petaled flowers from June through August. Spreads by rhizomes and seed to form loose colonies — excellent for naturalizing. Drought-tolerant once established. Historically used to stuff mattresses, hence 'bedstraw.'
