Peace Lily

Peace Lily

Spathiphyllum wallisii

A tropical from rainforests of Colombia and Venezuela, and one of the most forgiving flowering houseplants — glossy dark-green leaves with elegant white hooded 'flowers' (actually leaf-like spathes wrapped around a small spadix spike). Wilts dramatically when thirsty but recovers within hours of watering — a very expressive plant. Popular in Alberta homes for its air-purifying qualities and low light tolerance. Use a pebble tray or humidifier to boost humidity, as dry winter air can cause brown leaf tips.
