Prickly Saxifrage

Saxifraga tricuspidata

A low mat-forming perennial of Alberta's rocky ridges, cliffs, and alpine scree slopes. Tough little evergreen rosettes of three-toothed leaves (the tips are genuinely prickly) produce airy sprays of white flowers spotted with yellow and red in early summer. A tenacious rock-crevice survivor found well into the Arctic.
