
Red Baneberry
Actaea rubra
A strikingly beautiful but highly toxic native of Alberta's moist woodlands. Frothy white flower spikes in spring ripen into glossy red berries on thick red stalks by late summer. All parts — especially berries and roots — contain cardiogenic toxins. As few as six berries can cause serious symptoms in humans. Never consume.
