Red-stemmed Feather Moss

Pleurozium schreberi

The dominant moss of Alberta's boreal forest floor, covering vast areas with a resilient golden-green carpet. Recognizable by its distinctive deep-red stems (visible when you pull back the green shoots). Highly fire-resistant — a key colonizer after wildfires.
