Silver Sage

Artemisia ludoviciana

mostospi(Cree)

Also called White Sage or Prairie Mugwort — a tall spreading perennial with striking silver-white leaves 30–80 cm tall. Among the most important ceremonial plants of the Plains — used in smudging and many traditional rituals. Spreads aggressively by rhizome; give it room. Differs from the unrelated culinary sage (Salvia officinalis) and the southwestern 'White Sage' (Salvia apiana).
