Corallorhiza maculata
A leafless mycoheterotrophic orchid — it has no chlorophyll and gets all its nutrients from soil fungi, which in turn connect to nearby trees. Purplish-brown stems rise 20–50 cm with small white flowers spotted with magenta. Found in shaded boreal and foothill forests. Living proof that orchids are master negotiators with the fungal world.
