Thimbleberry

Rubus parviflorus

A thornless native raspberry of Alberta's foothills and Rocky Mountain valleys, with large maple-like fuzzy leaves and papery white five-petaled flowers. Produces bright red raspberry-like fruits that are fragile and seedy but sweet. An important traditional food of Interior Plateau peoples.

Propagation

Suckers from rhizomes (dig and transplant in spring). Softwood cuttings in early summer also work. Seed is slow — requires warm then cold stratification.
