Wild Calla

Calla palustris

A striking small pond-edge plant with glossy heart-shaped leaves and a single showy white spathe wrapped around a yellow flower spike (spadix), reminiscent of a small Peace Lily. Native to Alberta's boreal ponds, fens, and slow backwaters. The plant is toxic; do not confuse with the unrelated edible Marsh Marigold.
