Yellow Avens

Geum aleppicum

A common wildflower of Alberta's moist meadows, streambanks, and open woods — easily 60–80 cm tall, with compound leaves and small bright-yellow five-petaled flowers on branching stems. After flowering, produces bristly hooked seed heads that cling to clothing and animal fur (an effective dispersal strategy). Related to culinary herbs.
