Yellow Prairie Violet

Viola nuttallii

One of Alberta's few native yellow violets, with lance-shaped leaves (unusual for the violet family) and bright yellow 5-petaled flowers veined in purple. Found on prairie, upper steppe, and open forest slopes across southern and central Alberta. Like most violets, produces hidden self-pollinating flowers in addition to its showy spring blooms.
