Cast Iron Plant
Aspidistra elatior
Earning its name for sheer tenacity — the Cast Iron Plant tolerates deep shade, dry air, neglect, and temperatures from freezing to sweltering. Long dark-green strap-shaped leaves emerge singly from underground rhizomes. A Victorian parlour staple and a genuine low-light champion. Non-toxic and pet-safe. Growth is slow, which is the main cost of its legendary toughness.
