
Water Sedge
Carex aquatilis
Alberta's most widespread sedge, forming dense colonies from valley marshes to alpine fens. Recognizable by its triangular stem — 'sedges have edges.' Stabilizes peat soils, regulates water levels, and provides essential cover for waterfowl nesting.
