Giant Hogweed

Heracleum mantegazzianum

⚠️ PROHIBITED NOXIOUS — must be destroyed under Alberta's Weed Control Act. A massive biennial/short-lived perennial from the Caucasus region reaching 3–5 m tall, with enormous umbrella-like white flower heads up to 50 cm across. Extremely dangerous: clear sap contains furanocoumarins that, when combined with sunlight, cause severe blistering burns and long-lasting dark scarring. Do not handle without full protective clothing — report sightings to your municipal Agricultural Fieldman.
