Meadow Buttercup

Ranunculus acris

⚠️ Introduced from Europe — now naturalized across Alberta pastures, meadows, and ditches, and listed by the Alberta Invasive Plants Council. Despite its cheerful glossy yellow five-petaled flowers, all parts contain protoanemonin, which blisters skin and is moderately toxic to livestock causing diarrhea, mouth blistering, and occasionally blindness. Looks like a meadow treasure but is best removed from pastures.
