⚠️ PROHIBITED NOXIOUS — a winter annual from the Mediterranean with grey-green foliage and small yellow thistle-like flowers surrounded by long sharp spines that can injure humans and livestock. Toxic to horses — causes 'chewing disease' (nigropallidal encephalomalacia), a fatal neurological disorder. Has devastated millions of hectares in the western US; Alberta is at risk. Report any sightings.
